Your Mara experience is shaped by where you sleep. Here's how reserve camps, conservancies and lodges differ — and what each costs.
Camps just outside the main gates (Sekenani, Talek, Oloolaimutia) are the most affordable way to do the Mara, with quick access to the reserve. Expect honest tented camps and full board with game drives.
The conservancies bordering the reserve (Naboisho, Olare Motorogi, Mara North) limit vehicle numbers and allow night drives and walking safaris. Pricier, but a more private, immersive experience.
Lodges and camps within the reserve put you in the heart of the wildlife, ideal during migration season when crossings can happen nearby.
The wildebeest are usually in the Mara from about July to October, with dramatic river crossings in that window. The green season (November–June) is quieter, cheaper and still excellent for resident game.
Drive from Nairobi (5–6 hours) or fly to an airstrip (Keekorok, Ol Kiombo) in about an hour. Camps arrange transfers from the airstrip.
Budget camps from about KES 8,000pp full board; mid-range tented camps KES 16,000+; conservancy and luxury camps KES 28,000–45,000+pp. We match your budget.
Reserve for value and classic game viewing; conservancy for exclusivity, night drives and walks. Many combine both.
Roughly July to October in the Mara, though exact timing varies with the rains. Book early for peak crossings.
